Abreu Advogados creates Digital Transformation Department and accelerates strategic commitment to innovation

Abreu Advogados strengthens its innovation strategy with the creation of a Digital Transformation Department, a firm-wide structure tasked with accelerating the digitalisation process, enhancing operational excellence and aligning technological transformation with client expectations.

The initiative was featured today in the print edition of Jornal Económico [Portuguese economic journal], highlighting Abreu’s positioning as one of the most innovative law firms in the Portuguese market.

The new Department became operational this month and is led by Vasco Silveira, a professional with experience in process automation, operational efficiency and technological innovation. This new phase reflects a strong and structured commitment to digital transformation. The technological developments of recent years, marked by significant acceleration and the growing integration of artificial intelligence solutions, require more dedicated, agile and robust governance models.

The focus lies on analysing and optimising existing systems and processes, both in management functions and practice areas, ensuring faster, more consistent and technically sound decision-making. Digital transformation is viewed as a process that involves technology, but above all people, training and internal engagement, ensuring sustainable implementation aligned with the firm’s culture.

This step does not represent a starting point, but rather reinforces a consistent track record in the strategic use of technology. Abreu Advogados was among the first law firms in Portugal to test Microsoft Copilot, maintains partnerships with academic institutions such as Instituto Superior Técnico, created the internal Abreu Tech group to test technological solutions, and works with collaborative artificial intelligence platforms applied to the legal sector.

Among its flagship projects is Abreu 360, an internally developed platform that integrates all business information, from client relationship management to team management and billing, providing real-time access to strategic data.

This innovation journey has received international recognition. Abreu Advogados was ranked the fifth most innovative law firm in Europe and the most innovative in Portugal at the FT Innovative Lawyers Awards Europe 2025, climbing 24 positions compared to the previous year and achieving the highest score in the Innovation and People categories.

The creation of the Digital Transformation Department consolidates this positioning and affirms a clear ambition: to continue investing in a structured way in technology, efficiency and service quality, strengthening responsiveness in an increasingly demanding and competitive sector.
