Sónia Pascoal authors APEMIP article on undivided estates and opportunities in the property market
Sónia Pascoal, Senior Associate Lawyer at Abreu Advogados’ Real Estate and Finance practice area, has authored an opinion article published by APEMIP – the Portuguese Association of Real Estate Professionals and Brokerage Companies, in which she analyses the impact of undivided estates on the Portuguese property market.
In the article, entitled “Undivided estates: ‘old’ and new opportunities”, Sónia Pascoal highlights that the existence of numerous properties held by undivided estates is a reality in Portugal, and that these assets often remain off the market for years, vacant and without the necessary maintenance, resulting in a consequent loss of value.
According to the lawyer, the market needs a more flexible regulatory framework, better suited to creating opportunities around “dormant” assets, which have until now remained outside the market due to family circumstances and the absence of effective legal mechanisms.
