Tiago Corrêa do Amaral analyses the future of Portuguese ports in ECO

In the article entitled “The ports Portugal needs to have”, Tiago Corrêa do Amaral analyses the recent creation of the technical coordination team for the PORTOS 5+ strategy, which is responsible for monitoring the implementation of an investment plan worth around four billion euros by 2035.

The Energy and Natural Resources specialist at Abreu Advogados highlights the importance of this plan in addressing structural delays in the port sector, promoting new concessions and strengthening the competitiveness of national ports, namely in Leixões, Aveiro, Lisbon, Setúbal and Sines.

Among the planned projects, the lawyer underlines the relevance of the Vasco da Gama Terminal in Sines as a strategic infrastructure for positioning Portugal as a logistics hub between the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, Europe and the South Atlantic.

The article also addresses the need to strengthen rail and road access to ports, as well as the impact of new European rules on carbon and the transition to alternative fuels on international logistics routes.
