Tiago Corrêa do Amaral is Partner and has been at Abreu Advogados since 2008. His practice has focused on the areas of energy, environment and public procurement.

He has been actively working for more than 15 years in the Portuguese, Angolan and Mozambican jurisdictions in the areas of Public Law, Energy and Natural Resources (Hydroelectricity, Oil & Gas).

Within the scope of the aforementioned sectors, his vast experience in monitoring energy and extractive industry projects stands out, namely in conducting their licensing, including the licensing and environmental assessment of the projects, negotiation and drafting of sector-specific contracts, monitoring of expropriation processes and relations with the Administration and other Public Entities.

He also has extensive experience in advising companies in various sectors of activity, particularly in the health sector, on matters of public procurement.

Energy Law, Portugal (2021-2022)

Work Experience

Advising a multinational company, world leader in renewable energies, on the implementation of the so-called Tâmega Electroproducer System, one of the largest hydroelectric projects carried out in Europe in the last 25 years, comprising 3 dams and an installed capacity of about 1,158 MW;

Advising a leading company in the renewable energy market in the implementation of photovoltaic and wind power projects, with special focus on the licensing and establishment of rights necessary for the implementation of the projects;

Advising companies in the energy sector in M&A transactions, in particular on regulatory matters;

Advising companies in the mining sector on the licensing and operation of the activity;

Advising multinational companies in the energy sector in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique;

Advising multinational companies in the health sector;

Advising multinational companies in the medical and industrial gases sector;

Advising multinational companies on public procurement in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique;

Appointed by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, for the three-year period 2006/2009, as a member of the Western European Union Resources Committee.
