Teresa Carneiro discusses the risks and opportunities of Artificial Intelligence
Teresa Carneiro took part in Consulta Pública, a programme broadcast on Antena 1, which focused on the risks and opportunities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the challenges that the rapid evolution of this technology poses for businesses, workers and society.
During the discussion, the lawyer addressed the potential impact of AI on the labour market and the legal issues that may arise from the replacement of certain roles by automated systems. Regarding the possibility of such cases being brought before the courts, Teresa Carneiro acknowledged that several grey areas remain within an evolving legal framework.
European regulation was also a key topic, with the lawyer emphasising the need to strike a balance between protecting individuals and organisations and fostering innovation: “The challenge is that regulation must be agile, proportionate and capable of keeping pace with the speed at which these technological models are evolving.”
The Abreu Advogados Associate also advocated an approach that would enable Europe to regulate without creating unnecessary barriers to innovation and the development of new Artificial Intelligence solutions.
