Pedro Barosa clarifies that online platforms are required to hold a specific licence to trade weapons

Online platforms that sell a wide range of products, such as toys and clothing, also make weapons available – without any form of control. In the report produced by SIC, the journalists demonstrate how the purchase and even the resale of bladed weapons and even tasers through websites such as Vinted, OLX or Worten’s Marketplace is possible in Portugal.

Speaking to the television channel, Pedro Barosa explains that “to sell this type of weapon, it is necessary to have a gunsmith’s licence granted by the Public Security Police”. In other words, for these platforms to allow the legal sale of weapons, they are “required to hold this licence” – which is not the case.

In addition to illegal sales, there is also self-manufacture, aided by online videos. “Anything that is concealed or homemade automatically falls under Class A.” This is the most dangerous category of weapons, prohibited to civilians under national legislation.
