The session took place on 12 March and brought together 92 participants, with the main objective of supporting Pact members in understanding the national and European legislative framework applicable to the plastic packaging sector. The document presented systematises and clarifies the relevant legislation, functioning as a practical reference tool for companies and other stakeholders operating in this area.
During the presentation, José Eduardo Martins highlighted the main legislative developments related to plastic packaging regulation, as well as the challenges associated with its implementation. His intervention emphasised the increasing complexity of the regulatory framework and the need for close monitoring of legislative developments, particularly in the context of European circular economy and sustainability policies.
The webinar also included a roundtable discussion dedicated to the topic “Opportunities and Challenges for the Circular Economy of Plastics”, moderated by Patrícia Carvalho, Coordinator of the Portuguese Plastics Pact. The discussion featured contributions from Vera Correia (EGF), Cristina Câmara (APED – Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies) and Nuno Aguiar (APIP – Portuguese Association of the Plastics Industry), who shared different perspectives on the evolution of the regulatory framework and its impact on the sector.
The session provided an opportunity to reflect on the challenges and opportunities associated with the transition towards a more circular economy for plastics, highlighting the importance of collaboration among the different actors in the value chain and the need to closely follow legislative developments shaping the sector.
