Abreu Advogados promotes three new partners and five new professional partners

The law firm led by Inês Sequeira Mendes announces the promotions of three new partners and five new professional partners. Abreu Advogados’ decision is in line with the sustained growth of its activity and its policy of promoting merit, as well as recognising the work carried out by its lawyers throughout the year.

 

Gonçalo Malheiro, Maria Inês Assis and Nuno Luís Sapateiro are the firm’s new partners, and Diogo Belard Correia, Joana Maldonado Reis, Madalena Bernardes Coelho, Sara Soares and Susana A. Duarte are the new professional partners, bringing Abreu Advogados total number to 46 partners and 28 professional partners.

These promotions, in line with Abreu Advogados’ strategy of growth and development, recognise the quality and excellence of the work carried out by each of the lawyers, reinforcing its position as one of the most important independent Portuguese firms.

New Members:

 

Gonçalo Malheiro joined Abreu Advogados between 2001 and 2007 and again since 2017, working mainly in the Litigation and Arbitration areas. He is particularly involved in legal proceedings in different areas of law, such as civil litigation, commercial litigation, corporate litigation, industrial property litigation and criminal litigation, as well as in various arbitration proceedings.

Maria Inês Assis has been at Abreu Advogados since 2019, working on tax-related matters. Throughout her professional career, she has focused her activity on international tax consultancy. She has also provided tax advice on corporate reorganisations, private wealth management, individual and international taxation, succession planning and family governance.

Nuno Luís Sapateiro has been at Abreu Advogados since 2021 in the Finance practice area. He has more than 15 years’ experience in the insurance and aviation sectors, having provided strategic advice to numerous large-scale national and international operations involving some of the most important insurers and airlines.

 

New Professional Partners:

Diogo Belard Correia has been at Abreu Advogados since 2020, working mainly in the area of real estate and tourism law, including residential, tourism, commercial and logistics projects. He advises on all stages of property investment: structuring, acquisition, construction, commercialisation, operation, and has extensive experience in real estate due diligence, especially for developers, multinational companies, institutional investors and family offices.

Joana Maldonado Reis has been at Abreu Advogados since 2019, working mainly on business structuring and corporate restructuring operations, from a tax perspective. She is particularly involved in matters relating to acquisitions, mergers, spin-offs and transfers of assets or exchanges of shares and specialises in indirect taxes, with a particular focus on VAT.

Madalena Bernardes Coelho has been at Abreu Advogados since 2007, working mainly in the areas of public law and environment, where she provides legal advice in the fields of the environment and energy. She is particularly involved in matters relating to the use of water resources, environmental, industrial and commercial licensing, environmental impact assessment, licensing of electricity production centres, climate change and emissions trading, environmental liability, regulation of energy product markets, waste management and environmental administrative offences.

Sara Soares has been at Abreu Advogados since 2008, focussing mainly on tax litigation and tax consultancy. She is particularly involved in VAT-related matters, particularly in operations in the digital economy, property, health, sports and education sectors, as well as cross-border operations and those involving public entities.

Susana A. Duarte has been with Abreu Advogados since 2010. Throughout her career, she has focussed her practice on advising private clients and companies, including international taxation, restructuring operations, private wealth management, operations to set up companies in Portugal and financing. He has also advised clients on other corporate income tax and stamp duty matters, as well as tax litigation.
