Observador | Pro Bono | Online Shopping: Know Your Rights

Online shopping is becoming increasingly common, but are you aware of your rights in this area? José Maria Alves Pereira, Principal Lawyer at Abreu Advogados, explains in the latest episode of Pro Bono, a programme by Rádio Observador, that stronger consumer protection is essential in this context.

The lawyer highlights two key rights in online shopping: the right to information, which places the obligation on the seller to provide a set of pre-contractual details before purchase, and the right of withdrawal, which allows the consumer to cancel the contract within 14 days without giving any reason. He adds that for defective products, the contract can be cancelled within three years, and the seller must refund the customer if repair or replacement is not possible.

José Maria Alves Pereira advises consumers to always use trustworthy websites and read the terms and conditions before making a purchase. He also notes that if a complaint needs to be made, it can be submitted via the online complaints book.
