Maria Santa Martha and Benedita Pessanha discuss housing and rental market challenges at Porto Urban Rehabilitation Week
Abreu Advogados will take part in the 14th edition of Porto Urban Rehabilitation Week, taking place from 2 to 4 November at the former Vasco da Gama Canning Factory in Matosinhos. Maria Santa Martha and Benedita Pessanha will contribute to the event’s programme, which brings together experts and representatives from the public and private sectors to discuss the main challenges facing housing, construction and urban regeneration.
On 2 November, Maria Santa Martha will participate in the conference “Solutions for a New Cycle of Housing Supply”, taking place from 11.45 am to 1.00 pm. At 12.15 pm, she will deliver a presentation entitled “Legislative Reforms to Increase Housing Supply”, before joining a roundtable discussion on the challenges and opportunities associated with developing new housing solutions. The session will address issues such as the role of housing cooperatives, financing mechanisms and the impact of recent legislative initiatives on the residential property market.
On 3 November, from 6.00 pm to 6.45 pm, Benedita Pessanha will participate in the session “Urban Tenancy Reform: What Changes Under Draft Law No. 103/XVII”, focusing on the proposed amendments to the legal framework governing urban tenancy agreements. The discussion will examine the main aspects of the reform proposed by the Portuguese Government, including greater contractual freedom, stronger safeguards for contractual compliance, simplified eviction procedures and the protection of vulnerable tenants.
The session will also explore the practical implications of these changes for landlords, tenants and investors, against a backdrop of ongoing developments in Portugal’s housing legislation.
Organised by Vida Imobiliária, Porto Urban Rehabilitation Week will bring together more than 100 speakers over three days of conferences, debates, workshops and legal seminars. The event aims to foster discussion on the future of cities, with a particular focus on access to housing, sustainability and innovation in the real estate sector.
