Abreu Advogados’ Knowledge Institute, UCP and IST launch the 2nd edition of the course “Law and Practice of Artificial Intelligence”
The Knowledge Institute of Abreu Advogados is once again partnering with the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and the Instituto Superior Técnico for the 2nd edition of the intensive course “Law and Practice of Artificial Intelligence”, which will take place from 11 March to 13 May 2026, in person, at the Lisbon School of the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
The European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Act), published in 2024, began to apply in February 2025, with most of its provisions becoming fully applicable from 2 August 2026. This new legal framework imposes demanding compliance obligations on public and private organisations that develop, market or use AI systems.
In a context of rapid dissemination of AI systems, including general-purpose models and generative AI solutions, it is essential to understand not only the transformative potential of these technologies, but also the associated legal, ethical and operational risks.
It is within this framework that the course “Law and Practice of Artificial Intelligence” provides an in-depth analysis of the European regime, adopting an interdisciplinary approach that combines technological, legal and ethical perspectives.
The course is offered by the Lisbon School of the Faculty of Law of UCP, through Católica Next, and by Técnico+, of Instituto Superior Técnico, in partnership with the Instituto de Conhecimento of Abreu Advogados.
