Luís Barreto Xavier authors article on proposed amendment to the AI Act

Luís Barreto Xavier has written an article, published by Jornal Económico, in which he highlights a “decisive dilemma” within the European Union concerning the proposal to simplify the AI Act, questioning whether these changes merely represent a reduction in bureaucracy or whether they may, in practice, lead to deregulation that weakens the protection of citizens.

The of counsel at Abreu Advogados and President of the Instituto de Conhecimento emphasises: “Simplifying cannot mean deregulating. The challenge is to strike a balance: competitiveness without relinquishing the values that define the European project.”
