Observador | Pro Bono | Employment Contract: What You Need to Know

What should you know about employment contracts? Carmo Sousa Machado, partner at Abreu Advogados, explains the legal differences between the various types of contracts in the latest episode of Rádio Observador’s Pro Bono podcast, now also available on video.

Permanent contracts, fixed-term or open-ended contracts, service provision agreements, or the so-called “false self-employment” arrangements – all differ in terms of the rights and obligations between employer and employee, or between client and contractor.

Regarding dismissals, Carmo Sousa Machado also clarifies that no one can be dismissed without first undergoing a disciplinary process. “If someone is dismissed without there having been, beforehand, a disciplinary process, and the matter is brought before a court, it is immediately ruled unlawful.”

Every Thursday at 4:35pm, on the programme Pro Bono, Abreu Advogados and Rádio Observador help businesses make informed decisions, understand the more complex aspects of the law, and clarify some of today’s key legal issues.
