Maria João Melícias speaks at the ABA Antitrust Spring Meeting 2026

Maria João Melícias, co-head of the Competition, Regulatory and European Union practice, participated as a speaker at the ABA Antitrust Spring Meeting 2026, one of the leading international events in the field of antitrust law.

The conference is organized by the American Bar Association (ABA), the largest voluntary association of lawyers in the United States, and took place from March 25 to 27, 2026, in Washington, DC, bringing together enforcers, academics, lawyers and industry experts from across the globe.

Maria João Melícias joined the panel “Sustainable Cooperation, a Double-Edged Sword”, held on March 25, which explored the growing intersection between sustainability initiatives and competition law. The session focused on how authorities assess the line between legitimate environmental cooperation and anticompetitive conduct, including concerns around so-called “green cartels.”

The panel featured international speakers from public authorities, corporations and law firms, fostering a comprehensive discussion on the opportunities and risks associated with sustainability-driven collaborations.

Now in its 74th edition, the ABA Antitrust Spring Meeting is widely regarded as a premier global forum for antitrust discussions, featuring an extensive programme of technical sessions, training initiatives and networking opportunities.

Maria João Melícias’s participation highlights Abreu Advogados’ strong international presence and recognized expertise in competition and EU regulatory matters, as well as its commitment to engaging in the global debate on key legal and economic challenges affecting markets and businesses.
