Isabel Pinheiro Torres is a Professional Partner at Abreu Advogados, working primarily in the areas of finance and corporate law.

Isabel has more than 15 years’ experience as a lawyer and is mainly focused on financial regulatory law, particularly in advising on regulatory matters, including the authorisation processes of regulated entities before supervisory authorities.

Her work also covers a wide range of issues related to banking products, financial brokerage services, derivative instruments, payment services, and investment funds.

She has advised clients across the financial sector, including banks, investment firms, insurance companies, funds, and payment institutions, supporting them on regulatory and compliance matters.

In addition to her regulatory practice, Isabel is also involved in cross-border financing transactions, particularly on Portuguese law-related security matters, including her participation in one of the largest project finance operations in Africa — the Mozambique LNG project.

Between 2010 and 2013, Isabel was seconded to Banco Espírito Santo Group, working with both the bank and its investment arm, BESI (now Haitong Bank), where she supported the derivatives and project finance teams in Lisbon.

  • Assisting the Lenders/ECAs within the Mozambique LNG Project, a USD 26 Bn project, representing the largest FDI in Africa;

  • Assistance to the Portuguese Ports’ concessionaires in the refinancing transaction with a bank syndicate;

  • Assistance to a credit institution for its authorisation before the CMVM for Investment services;

  • Assistance with the acquisition of a branch of a bank in Portugal;

  • Assistance with the setup of a venture capital fund for a wine and beverage group;

  • Assistance in the review of the bail-in playbook of a national credit institution;
