Abreu Advogados at the Cascais 2022 | Annual Tax conference – AIJA

Abreu Advogados will participate at Cascais 2022 | Annual Tax conference of AIJA – International Association of Young Lawyers, between 10 and 12 March 2022. The event will take place in Cascais and will count with the participation of Maria Inês Assis, Partner at Abreu Advogados, who will be a speaker on March, 11, in the session “Setting the scene – today’s OECD approach to athletes/entertainers taxation”.

The AIJA Annual Tax Conference 2022 will try to shed some more light on typical issues that entertainment industry taxpayers are confronted with in international theatre. After the pandemic and the lifting of restrictions, professional artists and sportspeople are again exposed to taxation at source under traditional international tax rules – even if their profession is rapidly changing in the new digital age with live-streaming, e-sports, digital artworks.

During the conference, we will address the following issues: Is the international tax treatment for artists and sportsmen still in line with recent developments that try to align taxation with value creation? How has covid-19 impacted the lives of these taxpayers? Should the rules for individual artists and sportsmen and women be changed, i.e. are the cornerstones for establishing their specific tax regime still relevant in 2021? What about media companies and the developments in the field of copyright taxation? What about new digital works of art? How to deal with NFTs? Of course, traditional concerns regarding tax residency and inheritance planning remain relevant today.
