Recently, a draft law has been published to put an end to the “special tax regime for non-habitual residents (RNH)” in Portugal, which allowed certain benefits, exemptions and low rates during the first ten years of establishing tax residence in the country.
In the coming weeks, definitive progress is expected with respect to this new legislation, which will undoubtedly have an impact on foreign investments in Portugal and will have a significant impact on the group of non-habitual residents. But it will also have an impact in Spain, given the geographical proximity and the tax differences existing in both countries.
