Sofia Rijo discusses new customs rules for e-commerce on RTP
Sofia Rijo, Professional Partner at Abreu Advogados and a specialist in the firm’s Customs and International Trade practice, appeared on RTP, Portugal’s public broadcaster, to explain the new customs rules applicable to e-commerce consignments imported from outside the European Union.
Her intervention focused on the abolition of the customs duty exemption for low-value consignments of up to €150 and the introduction of a fixed €3 fee per product category. These changes, which entered into force on 1 July, are expected to have a significant impact on consumers, online marketplaces, logistics operators and businesses involved in import operations.
During the interview, Sofia Rijo explained that the new European customs framework represents a significant development for e-commerce, affecting final consumer costs, the responsibilities of online platforms and the procedures applicable to the import of goods from outside the European Union.
