José Rijo speaks at European Union Customs Law event in Minas Gerais
The Portuguese Chamber of Minas Gerais is holding a meeting today, 22 June, at 6:30 p.m., dedicated to the topic “European Union Customs Law: Perspectives, Challenges and Opportunities”, at which José Rijo will be a speaker.
In connection with the timing of this initiative, the lawyer highlights the topicality of the debate surrounding international trade relations and the recent agreement between the European Union and Mercosur.
“As far as Portuguese companies are concerned, the Interim Trade Agreement concluded between the European Union and Mercosur will provide for the gradual dismantling of customs duties and non-tariff barriers applied by the Mercosur Member States, thereby facilitating access for national products to those countries. Conversely, access by our companies to raw materials that are non-existent or scarce in the European Union will make a decisive contribution to increasing their competitiveness in global markets,” he states.
The event is supported by the Minas Gerais Bar Association, through its International Relations Committee and Customs Law Committee, reinforcing the aim of promoting legal and institutional debate on matters with a direct impact on international trade, the movement of goods and cooperation between markets.
