João Lupi takes part in Zero Debris Week 2026

João Lupi, co-head of Abreu Advogados’ Space and Satellites sector, will take part on 9 September in a roundtable held as part of Zero Debris Week 2026, taking place from 8 to 11 September in Seville, Spain.

His participation will take place during the inaugural session of one of the Policy Working Groups of the Zero Debris Community and will focus on the topic “Embedding space debris costs upfront: state of play and challenges”.

The roundtable will foster discussion on incorporating, from the early stages of space missions, the costs associated with the prevention and mitigation of space debris, looking at the current state of play and the main challenges surrounding the implementation of this approach.

Organised with the support of the European Space Agency (ESA), Zero Debris Week brings together experts, policymakers and representatives from the space sector to discuss solutions aimed at contributing to a safer and more sustainable orbital environment. The 2026 edition includes the third Zero Debris Future Symposium, dedicated to regulatory, legal, commercial and public policy matters, as well as technical sessions.

João Lupi’s participation builds on Abreu Advogados’ involvement in the Zero Debris Community. In November 2025, Abreu became the first Portuguese law firm to sign the Zero Debris Charter, an international commitment aimed at helping to eliminate the creation of new space debris by 2030, signed by João Lupi on behalf of the firm.
