João Lupi moderates European debate on access to space and the regulatory framework for spaceports

João Lupi will moderate the first roundtable of a webinar organised by the Alliance for European Autonomous Access to Space (AEAAS) on 22 October at 8.30 am (mainland Portugal time). The event will focus on the regulatory and institutional challenges associated with spaceports and access to space in Europe.

The first session, “Institutional Strategy & Governance”, will bring together representatives from the European Commission (DG DEFIS), EUSPA and ESA to discuss European strategic priorities, security and policy integration. The second roundtable will explore coordination between national agencies and the European legal framework, with the participation of DLR, CNES and Portugal Space.

The discussion will address issues extending beyond the operation of spaceports themselves, examining access to space as a prerequisite for the development of the space economy and the use of essential resources. This dimension involves a wide range of sectors and stakeholders, highlighting the need to reconcile European and national perspectives when defining the rules governing this activity.
