João Lupi discusses the future of Portugal’s space sector at the 23rd Science Café in Parliament

João Lupi will participate in the 23rd edition of the Science Café in Parliament, dedicated to the theme “Making Space for Space: Inspiring Innovation”, on 21 October, in the Noble Hall of the Portuguese Parliament. The initiative brings together researchers, policymakers and business representatives to discuss the role of science and innovation in the country’s development.

Portugal’s space sector has experienced significant growth, with universities, companies and other organisations involved in projects such as the development of satellites to monitor territory, protect the oceans and improve maritime communications. Portugal also contributes to European Space Agency (ESA) missions, with scientists and companies participating in the development of technological components.

The co-head of Abreu Advogados’ Space and Satellites sector will contribute to the discussion by addressing the challenges and opportunities facing Portugal, at a time when the sector presents new prospects for growth, ranging from research projects to the potential establishment of a spaceport on Santa Maria Island in the Azores. Growing interest among students and the availability of specialised training programmes also highlight the sector’s potential.

The Science Café in Parliament is organised by Ciência Viva and the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science, in collaboration with other parliamentary committees and the scientific community.
