Madalena Caldeira has been at Abreu Advogados since 2016, and is a professional partner since 2019. She worked previously as a consultant, covering a wide range of fields in all aspects of labour law, but specialising in matters of Social Security and income tax. She has been involved in numerous corporate restructuring operations involving labour issues, dealt with either by process of negotiation or through collective redundancy, complementing advice provided regarding the treatment of taxation and Social Security applicable to the income and benefits accrued by employees.

She has provided expert advice on the pre-litigation and litigation phases of cases involving Social Security matters, as well as on taxation applicable to income derived from employment, and salary procedures.

She extensive practical experience on matters relating to acquisitions from the human resources perspective, both upstream, when conducting due diligences, and in consulting on employment contracts, transfer of undertakings, and pre-litigation and litigation in labour disputes.

The consultancy she provides cuts across various business sectors, but focuses specifically on the aeronautical, transport and communications, freight forwarding, and manufacturing and hotel sectors, where she has been involved in some of the largest multinational group restructuring exercises to have occurred in Portugal.

Advising a multinational company in the aeronautics sector on human resources matters, including advice on Social Security, income tax and pre-litigation and litigation situations.

Advising a multinational company in the automotive sector on integrating the company it had acquired.

Advising and a multinational freight forwarding group and providing day-to-day assistance on labour matters, including Social Security and income tax matters, as well as legal proceedings.

Providing legal advice on the privatisation of a national company in the aviation and aircraft navigation sector.

Advising various multinational companies, when winding up or closing their branches or subsidiaries in Portugal and carrying out the appropriate procedures of terminating employment contracts.

Advising clients in the pre-litigation and litigation proceedings relating to Social Security matters.

Advising on employee secondment and related issues.
