Inês Sequeira Mendes wins “European Managing Partner of The Year” at The Lawyer European Awards

This is the first time a Portuguese woman has won this award. The leader of the law firm, who is currently serving her second term, was honoured among MPs from top firms in eight European countries.

Inês Sequeira Mendes, Managing Partner of Abreu Advogados since 2021, was awarded European Managing Partner of the Year, becoming the first woman to be distinguished in Portugal in this category, at The Lawyer European Awards ceremony, which took place last Thursday, 28 November, in London.

“It is with great pride and honour that I receive this award for European Managing Partner of the Year. I am deeply grateful, as this award reflects the work of an entire team that is much bigger than me. Leading is almost never easy, but managing Abreu Advogados is an exciting task and possible thanks to the high personal and technical qualities of those who do it every day,” says Inês Sequeira Mendes, Managing Partner of Abreu Advogados.

Winning the European Managing Partner of the Year award recognises Inês Sequeira Mendes’ essential role in the success of an independent law firm project that has always dared to think and act differently: open to knowledge, research and innovation, without ever neglecting its main focus on people, their projects and challenges.

“With this award, Abreu’s history is richer and, in the year in which we celebrate our 30th anniversary, our responsibility to continue providing the best legal services and to promote debate and the search for solutions to the main and most innovative issues in law grows. Knowing the people and projects we work with and for, I’m sure we can look to the future with confidence,” emphasises Inês Sequeira Mendes.

It should be remembered that, earlier this year, Abreu Advogados had already been recognised as the only Portuguese firm to win an award at the renowned Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards, with the “Innovation in Skills Development” prize. Abreu was also considered one of the most innovative law firms in Europe, achieving 16th place (the best position for a Portuguese firm) in the Financial Times ranking.

The Lawyer’s European Awards are an initiative organised by the international magazine The Lawyer, which aims to highlight the best work being done in the European legal market. This year, more than 250 applications were received from 120 companies and organisations, whose best projects have been nominated for the 27 prizes up for grabs. The awards ceremony will be held in person at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday 23 November 2023. With 30 years’ experience, The Lawyer is the UK’s oldest legal news and information brand, developing cutting-edge editorial reports and commentaries and incisive analyses of the legal market.
