Fernando Veiga Gomes has criticised the weakness of integrity in Portuguese sport, in an article published by O Jogo. The Abreu Advogados partner points out shortcomings and emphasises that there is still “a great deal to be done”: “There is a lot of talk about integrity in Portuguese sport, but very little is done to implement it,” he states.
The lawyer, a specialist in sports law, argues that robust regulation, independent investigations, training, prevention, and exemplary sanctions are needed so that the public does not lose confidence in the system. “Integrity is not a pretty concept for reports and laws. It is the foundation of sport,” warns Fernando Veiga Gomes.
