Diogo Pereira Duarte, Ricardo Henriques, Isabel Pinheiro Torres, and João Diogo Barbosa are the authors of the chapter “Portugal: Trends and Developments”, published in the guide “Fintech 2025: A Chambers Global Practice Guide”.
The chapter analyses the evolution of the global fintech sector in Portugal and forecasts for 2025. Despite the economic challenges faced in 2024, including inflation and market volatility, the sector has maintained steady growth, driven by increasing investment and a more defined regulatory environment.
The implementation of regulations such as the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and DORA – Digital Operational Resilience Act is expected to enhance the security and transparency of the sector, creating a more stable landscape for 2025. Regulation will encourage strategic partnerships between technology companies and financial institutions, fostering a safer and more innovative environment.
A growing network of investors, strengthened regulation, and a focus on innovation and scalability paint an optimistic outlook for the future of the fintech sector in Portugal.
