Luís Barreto Xavier to speak at the conference “The Challenges of the 21st Century: Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability”
Luís Barreto Xavier, Of Counsel at Abreu Advogados and President of the Institute of Knowledge, will be a speaker at the conference “The Challenges of the 21st Century: Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability”, which will take place on 27 and 28 January 2026 at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Lisbon.
The event will bring together academics and specialists from different institutions for an in-depth reflection on the main regulatory, ethical, social and economic challenges posed by artificial intelligence and sustainability.
Luís Barreto Xavier will speak on 28 January, as part of Panel IV – “Artificial Intelligence and the Rule of Law: Impacts, Risks and Challenges”, with a presentation entitled “The Digital Omnibus on AI – Reflections on the Future of the AI Act”, in which he will address the evolution of the European regulatory framework on artificial intelligence and its impacts on the rule of law.
The conference will address topics such as artificial intelligence governance, personal data protection, climate change, corporate sustainability and social and intergenerational challenges, promoting an interdisciplinary debate on the major issues shaping the 21st century.
