Sónia Gemas Donário is a Professional Partner at Abreu Advogados since 2022, focusing her practice in the area of Competition, Regulatory and EU.

Sónia advises clients on competition law in various sectors and assists clients in cases before the Portuguese Competition Authority and the European Commission, as well as in judicial proceedings. She was a trainee at the Court of Justice of the European Union and a Jurist at the Portuguese Competition Authority, having represented this institution in European Commission Working Groups.

In the energy and natural resources sector, her activity is directed to the legal and regulatory framework, and has focused on renewable energy sources, electric mobility, the completion of the internal energy market and carbon reduction.

In the area of art and cultural heritage law, Sónia has advised clients such as cultural associations and promoters in the entertainment industry, collectors and artists.

Sónia Gemas Donário taught at the University of Lisbon Law School and at the Autónoma University of Lisbon, where she also conducted research, having published extensively in the areas of European Union Law, Competition Law and Regulation.

Advising market agents in the electricity sector, in matters of competition and sector regulation, with intervention at ERSE and the national Competition Authority (AdC).

Advising national companies in the port sector on legal and competition issues and representing them before the AdC.

Assistance to a relevant group in the chemical sector in analyzing and advising on competition law and representation in proceedings before the AdC.

Advising a European company in the automotive sector on electric mobility with a view to entering the Portuguese market.

Creation and monitoring of a Competition Law Compliance program for a European energy technology company as well as other national and multinational companies.

Advising a multinational company in the telecommunications sector in proceedings before ANACOM.

Advising companies in the entertainment field, including legal opinions and drafting contracts.

Advising a cultural association on various issues in the area of art and cultural heritage law.
