Sónia Gemas Donário contributes to publication on Culture, Law and Heritage
Sónia Gemas Donário, professional partner and the recently appointed coordinator of the Art sector at Abreu Advogados, as well as the firm’s Cultural Project, is one of the contributing authors to the book Culture, Law and Heritage, published by Gestlegal and coordinated by José Luís Bonifácio Ramos and João Martins Claro.
The lawyer authored the article “Urban Art – Between the Legal Dimension of Illegality and the Contemporary Art Market”, in which she explores the complex relationship between legality and the legitimisation of urban art, addressing the challenges this form of expression poses to the law, the art market, and cultural policy.
This contribution reflects the ongoing work developed by Abreu Advogados in this field, supporting artists, galleries, collectors, foundations, and cultural institutions in managing legal issues related to the creation, circulation, commercialisation, and protection of artworks, as well as in mediating between the cultural sector and national and international legal frameworks.
Culture, Law and Heritage brings together a range of authors and offers a multidisciplinary approach to the intersections between culture and law, covering topics such as the protection of cultural heritage, cultural rights, the management of memory institutions, taxation in the sector, and the role of the media.
The launch event will take place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, on Tuesday 3 June, in the late afternoon.
The book is available for purchase here.
