Rui Peixoto Duarte is an Of Counsel at Abreu Advogados since 2025 and a member of its Advisory Board. He works primarily in contracts, corporate and financial areas in corporate business structuring operations.

He focuses particularly on matters related to the incorporation of new business by international companies in Portugal and on acquisitions, mergers and demergers.

He has also participated in the negotiation of commercial distribution and agency contracts as well as in litigation proceedings involving contractual and corporate issues.

Additionally, he has extensive experience on advising in transactions in the automotive, information technology, real estate, food, healthcare, chemical and financial sectors having participated in important operations carried out in Portugal in recent years.

He is also Co-Head of the French Desk and Brazilian Desk and has collaborated on matters involving French and Brazilian legislation.

He was Partner of Abreu Advogados between 2006 and 2025.

Advising an international insurance company on taking a participation in a Portuguese group and on the negotiation of a shareholder’s agreement.

Advising companies in the food industry on their international sourcing, supply and distribution agreements and on the acquisition of other companies in Portugal and abroad, as well as on corporate restructuring, including transformation and acquisition.

Advising companies in the healthcare sector, such as a Portuguese subsidiary of a global leader in the information sector on medical care, on the sale of the company in Portugal to an international investor. Advising on the acquisition of a company by a Portuguese multinational producer of medical instruments; and assisting a research and analyses entity on structuring vehicles for participation in cross border projects and partnerships with leading hospitals.

Advising a Portuguese family owned company on the sale of a company, holder of one of the largest Port Wine and table wine producing estates in Douro.
