Pedro Barosa stated in a commentary to SIC Notícias that “the panel of judges will be strict in their blind application of the law.” The partner at Abreu Advogados was referring to the start of the Operation Marquês trial on 3 July.
Together with the former Director of the Judiciary Police, Fernando Negrão, Pedro Barosa also analysed the formal complaint lodged by the former Prime Minister — the main figure in this case — with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
According to the lawyer, not only are the requirements to appeal via this route not met, but even if the ECHR were to issue a favourable opinion, it would carry “zero weight” in the ongoing proceedings in Portugal.
