Pedro Barosa comments on SIC Notícias about the start of the Operation Marquês trial
Pedro Barosa emphasised during an appearance on Jornal do Dia on SIC Notícias that “in the procedural logic of criminal cases, the next phase will be the trial.” The partner at Abreu Advogados was referring to updates in Operation Marquês, in which the appeal filed by the former prime minister was finalised in December.
His remarks follow the reaction of the former politician and his lawyer, who argue that “there is no indictment” and “there can be no trial,” and who did not attend the hearing at the Justice Campus to schedule the sessions.
The partner at Abreu Advogados clarifies that there is, in fact, an indictment issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as well as a formal decision to proceed with the case, the terms of which have been challenged by José Sócrates’ defence.
