Ana Rita Duarte de Campos, Partner at Abreu Advogados, explained to CNN Portugal the residence permit obtained by João Rendeiro in South Africa.
The criminal lawyer stated that “having a residence permit does not prevent you from being extradited”. The criminal law specialist reinforced that it would be “very difficult” for Rendeiro to have South African nationality for the simple fact of having invested in the country and recalls the strong diplomatic cooperation in this case. “I don’t know of any countries that give nationalities in exchange for investment,” she summarised.
