Zara Jamal recognized at the African Legal Awards 2026
Zara Jamal, partner at Abreu Advogados and at JLA Advogados, Abreu Advogados’ partner firm in Mozambique, was awarded the “Women Leaders in Law – Private Practice” prize at the African Legal Awards 2026, presented by Law.com International. The ceremony took place last Friday, 4 September, at The Wanderers Club in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The African Legal Awards are among the most prestigious accolades in the African legal sector, recognizing each year the lawyers and law firms that stand out across the continent. In the “Women Leaders in Law – Private Practice” category, which honors leadership and impact among private practice lawyers in Africa, Zara Jamal was selected among twelve finalists from leading firms across several African countries.
In addition to this individual distinction, Abreu Advogados was also shortlisted in the “African Network/Alliance of the Year” category, which recognizes the integrated work and strength of international law firm networks operating in Africa. This nomination reflects the joint work carried out by JLA Advogados with Abreu Advogados and the wider international network to which both belong.
This dual recognition, both individual and institutional, confirms the position of JLA Advogados, and of Abreu’s network of partner firms in Africa, as a reference for excellence in legal services on the continent.
