Webinar Series: The new era of competition in Angola

The evolution of Angola’s legal and institutional framework for competition has become a key factor for the country’s sustainable economic development and its integration into regional and international markets. In this context, Abreu Advogados, in partnership with FBL Advogados, hosted the webinar “The New Era of Competition in Angola” to discuss the priorities, challenges, and policy tools shaping competition policy.

The main topics included:

  • The strategic priorities of the Competition Regulatory Authority (ARC) for the coming years.

  • The impacts of Angola’s participation in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the International Competition Network (ICN).

  • The ARC’s approach to enforcement, advocacy, and compliance programmes.

  • The challenges of the State’s role in the economy and the effectiveness of leniency programmes.

The event featured Maria João Melícias, co-head of Competition, Regulation and European Union at Abreu Advogados, and Nelson Lembe, board member of Angola’s Competition Regulatory Authority. The discussion was moderated by Tatiana Serrão, partner at FBL Advogados.

“The New Era of Competition in Angola” was held online on 24 September and it was the first in a series of webinars dedicated to recent developments in the application of competition policy in Portuguese-speaking countries.
