Susana A. Duarte comments on the taxation of cryptocurrencies in Portugal

Susana A. Duarte, Associated Partner at Abreu Advogados, commented, in statements to Coindesk, the intentions of the Government of Portugal to start taxing cryptocurrencies through regulation.

In the interview the lawyer refers that in Portugal “there is no specific law, it is just a lack of regulation that led to the zero taxation in Portugal,” and that “this together with an understanding published by the Portuguese tax authority in 2016 meant that only crypto-related businesses can be taxed”.
