Abreu Advogados contributes to the Legal 500 “Country Comparative Guides 2025”

Ricardo Henriques, José Maria Alves Pereira, Margarida Castillo Silva and Pedro Hemsworth are the authors of the Portugal chapter in the Country Comparative Guides 2025, published by The Legal 500.

This guide provides an overview of the Portuguese laws and regulations applicable to the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) sector.

It concludes that the Portuguese legal framework for the TMT sector is strongly influenced by European legislation, ensuring a harmonised basis with other Member States, but with specific adaptations to the national context in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, telecommunications and data protection.

In the coming years, an increase in obligations is expected in relation to sustainability, data protection and digital resilience, which will require companies to pay greater attention to regulatory compliance and to integrate these requirements into technological contracts and operations.
