Abreu Advogados nominated for Financial Times award with project on dyslexia

Abreu Advogados is nominated for one of the most important international awards for innovation in the legal sector: the FT Innovative Lawyers Europe 2021. The Portuguese firm was chosen in the category of “Social justice and the Rule of Law” for its project developed in partnership with the blog “Dislexia Day by Day“, which has been contributing to an inclusive education for dyslexic children at school.

This partnership, created on a pro bono basis, has been developed by a team coordinated by Alexandra Courela, partner of Abreu Advogados and senior associate Madalena Bernardes Coelho, and composed of senior associates André Modesto Pinheiro and Maria Cabral de Azevedo, associate lawyer João da Cunha Empis and trainee lawyer João Soares Carvalho.

“This is a very important international recognition of Abreu Advogados’ brand and of our pioneering work in the field of sustainability and, within this field, mental health. Innovation is part of Abreu Advogados’ DNA since our foundation and we challenge ourselves daily to create differentiated solutions that create an impact with our clients and, more broadly, with civil society. That’s what we did with this partnership with the blog Dislexia Day by Day, which over the past year has played a key role in promoting legal literacy and building a more inclusive education for dyslexic children”, explains Alexandra Courela, partner at Abreu Advogados responsible for the project.

Besides Abreu Advogados, the category “Social justice and the Rule of Law” counts with the nomination of some of the largest law firms in the world, such as DLA Piper, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer or Hogan Hovells.

Over the past few years Abreu Advogados has developed several innovative projects that have made a difference in the national and international scene, including the tax advice to the first NFTs international platform; the analysis of the tax impact of cryptocurrencies and blockchain in corporate models; the Sustainability School, whose 2nd edition begins next week or the advice to the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) in the negotiations of the emergency agreement of its members with TAP and its majority shareholder, the State.

The Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Europe 2021 Awards are one of the most prestigious European awards in the field of law. Each year they distinguish the most innovative firms and projects on the continent. The awards ceremony will take place on October 14th.
