Abreu Advogados contributes to Thomson Reuters’ “Crypto-Asset Regulation” guide
Ana Sofia Batista, Isabel Pinheiro Torres, Diogo Pereira Duarte and Maria Eduarda Andrade are the authors of the Portugal-focused guide “Crypto-Asset Regulation”, published by Thomson Reuters.
The document provides an up-to-date analysis of crypto-asset regulation in Portugal, set within the context of the new European framework introduced by the MiCA Regulation. It explains the main European Union rules applicable to crypto-assets, stablecoins and service providers, as well as how these rules are being implemented in the Portuguese legal system.
The guide also outlines the role of the national authorities, namely the Banco de Portugal and the CMVM, the transitional regimes in place until 2025, the authorisation and supervisory requirements for service providers and issuers, anti-money laundering obligations, the rules applicable to the promotion of crypto-assets, and the current state of supervision and enforcement in Portugal, thereby offering a clear overview of the sector’s new regulatory framework.
