João Lupi argues that Space will be a pillar of European defence

João Lupi describes Space as a “pillar of European defence” and considers that 2025 marked a turning point for defence and the space sector in the EU, in a context of growing geopolitical instability and the integration of space as the fourth strategic domain of security.

In an article entitled “Cosmic and Martial Winds of Change”, published by Jornal de Negócios, the senior associate lawyer at Abreu Advogados advocates the need for convergence between defence and the space sector. He also stresses that Portugal has the conditions to establish itself as a strategic Atlantic platform, provided there is appropriate political vision and industrial support: “Portugal is well placed to establish itself as an Atlantic platform for space missions and integrated defence”, he emphasises.
