António Rafael is an Of Counsel and has been at Abreu Advogados since 2025, working primarily in Tax Law matters.

He has particular involvement in matters relating to acquisitions, mergers, demergers, asset contributions and share exchanges, with a strong focus on international taxation and financing transactions, including project finance.

He has extensive experience in tax litigation, having led numerous proceedings involving double taxation, transfer pricing and local taxes, with particular emphasis on the Angolan jurisdiction.

He also advises family-owned groups on tax planning, asset structuring and intergenerational wealth transfer.

He further has substantial experience in transactional advisory work across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, telecommunications, automotive, ports and logistics, financial services, real estate, corporate, tax and customs, as well as religious law. He has participated in some of the most significant corporate restructuring transactions in Angola.

He is regularly involved in investment transactions in Angola, Mozambique and Brazil.

He serves as a Board Member of the Angolan Tax Association and as Angola’s representative in the Lusophone Alliance for Religious Freedom.

  • Advising a real estate company on its capitalisation and the establishment of statutory legal reserves, as well as on tax and financial planning, including asset contributions, tax advisory services and refinancing transactions;

  • Advising a transport sector business group in Angola on human resources management, labour litigation and contract management;

  • Advising the President of a football club on legal and litigation matters;

  • Representing major corporations in administrative proceedings, legal advisory matters, as well as court representation.
