Law for Startups is the new book from Abreu Advogados’ Knowledge Institute

Abreu Advogados’ Knowledge Institute, in partnership with Almedina, launches the book “Law for Startups” (book written in Portuguese). Coordinated by the President of the Knowledge Institute, Luís Barreto Xavier, and by Helder Galvão, both are Of Counsel at the firm, the book brings together the latest knowledge on a wide range of topics related to the life and value of startups aimed to entrepreneurs and managers.

The articles, written by several lawyers from Abreu Advogados, explore the challenges of the process of creation and management of these projects, their conception, validation, traction and scale, focusing on topics as distinct as idealisation, corporate types, intellectual property, registration of trademarks and patents, disloyal competition, team formation and employee relations, tax planning, tax regimes and incentives, financing, venture capital and business angels, software, licenses, blockchain, virtual assets, GDPR, among many others.

The book also includes a “Legal Map“, with a complete glossary for the main moments of the life cycle of these projects.

In order to be read by a diverse audience, this book presents the topics in a simple and direct language, intending to be a practical manual for daily use. Includes also a legal map, where the entrepreneur can identify his main legal needs according to the development stage of his startup, and a glossary filled with the main expressions used by the market.

The preface by Ana Pimentel, editor of technology at Observador and author of the book “Unicórnios Portugueses – A história das startups de mil milhões de dólares”, and the collaboration of several lawyers from Abreu, allows the development of a multidisciplinary view of the whole process from creation to launch of startups in this book.

The book release will take place today at Web Summit, at 4pm, in pavilion 4 where Startup Portugal area is located.
