Pedro Ferreira Malaquias

Pedro Ferreira Malaquias has been a Partner at Abreu Advogados since 2023, and is co-head of the Financial Law practice area, working primarily in the areas of Banking and Financial Law, as well as Insurance.

He has intervention in advising on all legal aspects related to retail and investment banking activity, including loans, credit facility agreements, securitizations, covered bonds, non-performing loans, structuring of guarantees, commercial paper and structured finance.

Pedro is a member of the European Financial Markets Lawyers Group for several years, which is a group of senior legal experts from the EU banking sector who analyse and propose initiatives designed to foster the harmonisation of laws and market practices and facilitate the integration of financial markets in Europe.

He joins Abreu from another law firm where, for the last 20 years, he coordinated the Finance Department and was responsible for the areas of banking and insurance law. Having also worked in the legal department of the Banco Português do Atlântico, in the Competition Directorate General of the European Commission, as well as headed the legal department of BCP Investimento – Banco Comercial Português de Investimento SA.

Furthermore, for over 20 years Pedro has worked as a legal consultant for the Portuguese Banking Association, and acted as their representative on the Legal Committee and on the Consumers’ Committee of the European Banking Federation.
