Miguel Rodrigues Leal is a professional partner and has been at Abreu Advogados since 2025, working mainly in the areas of Banking and Finance.

Miguel has a wide experience advising investors, debtors, and financing entities in diverse activities, including transactions in real estate finance, corporate finance, project finance, infrastructure, private debt, restructurings, non-performing loans acquisitions, and bond issues.

He has also been involved in mergers and acquisitions and joint venture deals in regulated sectors and regularly advises institutions in regulatory matters, especially in the sectors of financial services, payment services, and securities law.

He joined Abreu from another law firm where he worked in the Lisbon and London offices and was one of the heads of the Banking and Finance practice in Lisbon.

He is a member of the Portuguese Bar Association.

Experience

Advising two bank syndicates in the refinancing of a portfolio of large-scale shopping centres;

Advising a Portuguese private equity group in several financing transactions for various hotels of its portfolio;

Advising an international pension fund in the financing through project bonds of various solar energy projects in Portugal;

Advising a Portuguese listed company in the medium-long term and revolving credit facilities for the funding of the group’s activities;

Advising an international bank in the acquisition of a holding in a Portuguese e-money institution and in the negotiation of a joint venture for the creation of a bank;

Advising the initial purchasers and bookrunners in several bond issues by a large aviation company;

Advising a Portuguese bank in the arrangement, negotiation and syndication of a green financing platform (bank loan facilities and debt securities issues) for a large infrastructure group.
