Catarina Mascarenhas has been an Of Counsel at Abreu Advogados since 2025. She specialises in digital law, technology and intellectual property, having worked in various sectors and participated in multiple projects for key clients in the fields of electronic communications, technology, banking, energy, health, media and entertainment and infrastructures.

She is particularly involved in matters related to technology, consumerism, digital markets, media & entertainment, cybersecurity, privacy, personal data, and advertising, in Portugal and international markets, working with multidisciplinary teams, whether in the context of transactions or recurring client support, ranging from recurring legal advice, project support or legal audits.

She has extensive experience in advising on transactional IP, as well as supporting the drafting and execution of compliance programmes related to DORA, NIS2, IA, and DSA in coordination with the internal teams of companies in various sectors and in conjunction with internal strategies and procedures, in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements and best governance practices.

She is also a board member of the Lawyers, Solicitors and Enforcement Agents Pension Scheme.

She is a member of the Portuguese Bar Association.

Experience

Legal advice to various entities in the financial, infrastructure, health and entertainment sectors on transactions related to their intangible assets with the aim of identifying potential contingencies or limitations to transactions, including the realisation of technological DD, SPA, TSA and other commercial agreements, from an integrated perspective and in the context of multidisciplinary teams;

Recurring legal advice to companies in various industries on the contracting and implementation of technological services and products;

Legal support to companies in the communications, banking and health sectors in the launch of new technological products and services, including emerging technologies (AI, IoT, virtual realities, among others), from the drafting of procedures, risk assessment and the drafting and review of contractual documents, in conjunction with the strategy and policies in force at the entities;

Support for startups and scaleups with regard to the use, development, protection and exploitation of technologies;

Legal advice in the area of data to companies in the financial and energy sectors, from legal support in defining the companies' data strategy to monetisation models and drafting data sharing agreements (personal and non-personal);

Legal and regulatory advice to companies in the media and entertainment sector, with particular emphasis on negotiating and contracting image rights, content and broadcasting and distribution rights;

Legal advice to broadcasters and companies in the music industry in the field of copyright and related rights, including drafting and negotiating contracts with different stakeholders (artists, producers, television organisations, distribution operators, etc);

Transversal and recurring legal support to legal and procurement teams of companies in the communications, banking, infrastructure and health sectors in the negotiation and drafting of technology contracts (software licensing, cloud computing, AI, implementation contracts, service level agreements, outsourcing contracts, maintenance contracts, etc);

Legal advice on advertising and marketing for companies in the energy and entertainment sectors, including contracts with influencers, competitions and sweepstakes.
