Abreu Advogados Knowledge Institute Renews Protocol with Universidade Católica Portuguesa

The Abreu Advogados Knowledge Institute has signed a protocol with the Escola de Lisboa da Faculdade de Direito and Católica Global School of Law, renewing the “Abreu Professorship in Law and Innovation” for a further three years. This is a comprehensive and stable cooperation platform, focused on knowledge and innovation.

The collaboration includes support for strengthening the faculty team and the sponsorship by the firm of the “LLM | Law in a Digital Economy” programme, as well as the opportunity for one of the three top students in this programme to undertake a professional internship at Abreu Advogados. In the field of research, the partnership will contribute to the dissemination of legal knowledge and the organisation of initiatives aimed at students or open to the public, such as conferences and webinars. The firm is also a partner of “Café IA” and “ColloquIA”, two discussion forums on topics related to artificial intelligence.

Inês Sequeira Mendes, Managing Partner of Abreu Advogados, and Luís Barreto Xavier, President of the Knowledge Institute, attended the signing of the protocol at Católica. Representing UCP were Ana Taveira da Fonseca, Director of Escola de Lisboa da Faculdade de Direito, and Miguel Poiares Maduro, Director of the Católica Global School of Law.

“The formalised protocol is a testament to Abreu Advogados’ ongoing commitment to legal research and innovation and highlights the importance that the institutions involved place on the need for close collaboration between the legal profession and academia. The excellent results achieved in previous years, as well as the challenges of the current context, make it clear that cooperation between these two fields is the right path forward and serve as further motivation for our commitment to its success,” stated the Managing Partner.

Luís Barreto Xavier, in turn, emphasised that “for the Knowledge Institute, this protocol represents a continued commitment to innovation, as well as to collaboration between academia and legal practice. The association between leading institutions in their respective fields can only produce exceptional results.”

Abreu Advogados is a strategic ally of Escola de Lisboa da Faculdade de Direito at UCP’s innovative projects, having supported the founding of the Católica Global School of Law and the launch of the first LL.M. programme taught in Portugal. It was also one of the first law firms in the country to sponsor a “Professorship.”
