Abreu Advogados hosts debate on the role of Family Offices in the global geopolitical landscape
On 28 November, Abreu Advogados hosted a roundtable dedicated to Family Offices, organised in partnership with UBS and Blackstone, bringing together investors, wealth managers and decision-makers attentive to the trends shaping the management of major fortunes and family wealth. The event reinforced the importance of integrated approaches to wealth management that combine legal, tax and financial dimensions within a global context of uncertainty and structural change.
Nuno Cunha Barnabé, co-coordinating partner of Abreu Advogados’ Tax Law team, closed the morning’s discussion with a presentation on “The role and (legal) challenges of Family Offices in Portugal” in the current context.
“The family office ecosystem is undergoing a structural transformation that demands greater professionalisation, transparency and governance frameworks prepared for the largest generational transfer of wealth in human history. In the national context, the challenge is even greater, as most wealth is rooted in family businesses, where the Family Office function lacks true autonomy from the company and where, in many cases, there is still no succession plan for the founder,” the Abreu Advogados partner noted.
The event also featured contributions from leading UBS and Blackstone professionals: Maximilian Kunkel (Chief Investment Officer – Global Family and Institutional Wealth at UBS), Tiago Saraiva (Advisory Specialist at UBS), and Mateusz Dudarski (Managing Director and Head of the Product Specialist Group in EMEA at Blackstone).
