Abreu Advogados appoints four new Partners and one new Professional Partner
Marta Romano de Castro, Rodrigo Formigal, Marta Costa e Pedro Alves da Silva are the new Abreu Advogados’ Partners. A promotion aligned with the firm’s affirmation and growth strategy, which promotes meritocracy and the expansion of its activity. Maria Inês Assis was also promoted to Professional Partner.
Abreu Advogados announces the invitation to four new Partners. The decision came out of the last Partners’ General Meeting where it was also announced the promotion of Maria Inês Assis to Professional Partner (specialized in Tax Law and Wealth Management), of Rui Humberto Messias to Associated Partner and of António Frusoni Gonçalves, José Maria Alves Pereira and Sara Gonçalves to Senior Associate Lawyer.
These promotions are the recognition of the merit, quality and important contribution that each of these lawyers has given to the firm, and symbolizes their commitment with the growth and affirmation path Abreu Advogados has been following in the national and international scene.

Marta Romano de Castro, Partner, has been at Abreu Advogados since 2001 working primarily in business structuring and restructuring operations for companies as they relate to corporate and financial law. She focuses particularly on matters related with acquisitions, mergers, demergers and transfer of assets or exchange of shares and private equity operations. She also works on different types of investment operations in Angola and Mozambique, providing corporate assistance and networking with lawyers from Abreu International Legal Solutions in those countries.
Rodrigo Formigal, Partner, has been at Abreu Advogados since 2018, primarily advising credit institutions and other investment companies, on an ongoing basis. He worked in investment banking and provided assistance to large corporates whilst on secondment at international banks. His experience includes advising borrowers and lenders on all aspects of financing operations, as well as providing advice on diverse areas of securities law, including financial intermediation and bond issues. He has also been involved in a variety of restructuring/trade of distressed debt operations, real estate finance, acquisition and sale of non-performing loans and structured finance transactions. Additionally, he has been involved in several securities issues, including covered bonds, commercial paper programmes, high yield bonds, and other asset backed transactions and provides ongoing assistance to undertakings for collective investment.
Marta Costa, Partner, has been at Abreu Advogados since 2019, co-heading the industry sector dedicated to Private Clients and Family Businesses, coordinating the Italian Desk and working in the Technology, Media & Telecommunications sector. She has vast experience in consulting family offices and individual clients on successions law and family law (in the areas of planning,negotiation, organisation and transfer of assets between generations and litigation), wealth planning, private international law and nationality matters. She is considered one of the most renowned specialists in her fields, and has won several awards and national and international distinctions.
Pedro Alves da Silva, Partner, has been at Abreu Advogados since 2013. He focuses primarily on mergers and acquisitions, corporate law and commercial contracts. More specifically he advises on corporate and financial matters, provides legal representation, advice and counselling to corporate clients in Portugal and abroad on general matters as well as mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, corporate restructuring, asset purchases, creating investment vehicles, and private equity funding and venture capital financing. He has led several project implementations in Portugal for foreign group companies and headed up multidisciplinary teams to ensure client support in all areas required for successful implementation. He has also been involved in transactions in Angola and Mozambique, advising and providing support by networking with lawyers participating in the Abreu Advogados’ international network.
Maria Inês Assis, Professional Partner, has been at Abreu Advogados since 2019, working on tax law matters. Throughout her career, she has focused on advising on international taxation. She has also provided tax law advice in corporate reorganisations, private assets management, individual and international taxation, succession planning and family governance.
With these promotions Abreu Advogados has now 35 Partner, in a universe of more than 200 lawyers.
