Fernando Veiga Gomes is a Partner and has been at Abreu Advogados since 2009, working mainly on matters related to corporate mergers and acquisitions, and sports law, in Portugal and internationally.
During his career, has been building an extensive experience in advising on transactions in matters related with transport law, sport law, real estate law and tourism.
He manages the area of sports law in Portugal, now considered a main practice area in Abreu Advogados, focusing on the incorporation and acquisition of sports companies. He has advised several football clubs, investors, players, athletes, sports agents and federations in Portugal and international level.
He has also been working on matters related to Angola since 2006 and is one of the joint managers of the firm’s Angolan Desk, which deals with a number of foreign investment operations in Angola.
In 1988 he was on secondment as a foreign lawyer at Herbert Smith Freehills, an international law firm in London. From 2003 to 2006, he worked as an advisor to the Board of Directors of EDP, Portugal’s foremost electricity services provider.
Fernando Veiga Gomes is currently the president of the International Association of Lawyers’s (UIA) Sports Law Commission.
Fernando Veiga Gomes is also a certified Mediator by the ICFML – Instituto de Certificação e Formação de Mediadores Lusófonos (Institute for Certification and Training of Portuguese-speaking Mediators) and is registered on the list of conflict mediators of the Ministry of Justice.
