Fernando Veiga Gomes elected as judge to FIA’s International Tribunal and Internacional Court of Appeal

Fernando Veiga Gomes, partner at Abreu Advogados, has been appointed to the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile’s International Tribunal (IT) and Internacional Court of Appeal (ICA).

On the nomination after the announcement, Fernando commented: “It is a great privilege to be appointed to this distinguished group of FIA judges. International motorsport is a fascinating industry with multiple players. IT and ICA play a crucial role in ensuring the law. It is a great pleasure and an honor to be part of such a dedicated international team.”

FIA’s IT exercises the FIA disciplinary powers in the first instance (for cases not dealt with by the Stewards of the Meeting). Decisions taken by IT can be appealed before the International Court of Appeal (ICA).

ICA is the final appeal tribunal for international motor sport. Established under the FIA Statutes and the FIA International Sporting Code it resolves disputes brought before it by any of National Sporting Authorities worldwide, or by the President of the FIA. It can also settle non-sporting disputes brought by national motoring organizations affiliated to the FIA.

Fernando Veiga Gomes was appointed to FIA’s International Tribunal and Court of Appeal for a term of four years.
